  1. Giving disadvantaged children in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, the broad educational support they need.
  2. Promoting the value of education to bring lasting change. This major education initiative between: The Create Trust & Tesfa Foundation will provide badly needed support to acutely disadvantaged children of primary school age in Addis Ababa. We will work with 70 children during the pilot helping them through primary school, in preparation for secondary school encouraging them into higher education and vocational training. F R I E N D S Ethiopia:

Has been running since July 2010.

A social development programme for Ethiopia. Beginning in Addis Ababa set within small districts at the heart of social living, bringing together responsible adults with vulnerable children/young people and women. Mentoring, English classes and vocational training are part of the scheme. Run by local volunteers supported by The Create Trust F R I E N D S will work together with the partner scheme N E I G H B O U R H O O D action, to bring a unified approach to community support. Neighbourhood Action: This scheme is now under development with Tesfa.

Beginning in Addis Ababa, this social development programme will work with local communities seeking to meet neighbourhood need through encouraging volunteering amongst young people without work. Neighbourhood Action will engender a spirit of social responsibility and friendship. The programme will work with the F R I E N D S scheme to build a coordinated, approach to neighbourhood support and action, encouraging a collective community spirit and empowering the community to bring about social change at a local level.

P H O T O  FRENZY: in Dorset & London.
Aimed at children and young people. A short series of photographic workshops will be delivered, thematic projects set and a selection of the most interesting images chosen for a fundraising exhibition, in July. A remarkable group of images taken by children in Sri Lanka affected by the tsunami, from the Family Friends & Home project, will be included in the final exhibition.

London F R I E N D S: A social support programme for Ethiopian & Eritrean refugees living in central London. Placing responsible adults from their own countries with newly arrived vulnerable women and men. Working within small districts of the city at the heart of social living, the scheme will offer mentoring, advice on jobs and housing, counselling, education information and English classes, together with social activities encouraging integration and participation in local activities, as well as contact with Diaspora groups. Delivered by local volunteers, supported and organised by The Create Trust. This project is under development and seeking funding.
